HINTZ NAMED HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

(Rochester, MN)— Rochester Community and Technical College is excited to announce Derrick Hintz has been named Head Coach for the RCTC Yellowjacket Football Team.

2018 marks Derrick Hintz’s 16th season with the Yellowjackets after beginning his career in 1995 with Coach Swisher. 2018 marks coach Hintz's second stint as the Head Football coach after coaching the LB's, OL, coordinating special teams, serving as defensive coordinator, and serving as head coach in 2011-12. Coach Hintz has over 45 years of coaching experience in high school football, college football, high school wrestling, and high school track and field.

“I am excited to have been selected to head up one of the premier football programs in the NJCAA,” said Coach Hintz. “I am a Yellowjacket through and through, and I hope to bring that excitement to the current and future players in the program....not only on the football field, but in the classroom, and in the community.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Derrick Hintz join the Yellowjacket football program as head coach for the upcoming season, notes Mike Lester, RCTC’s Director of Athletics. “Throughout the interview process Coach Hintz's passion for RCTC, the athletic department, and the students in the football program was very apparent. Coach Hintz and I have a shared vision to bring championship football back to Rochester Community and Technical College while at the same time ensuring and holding our student-athletes accountable to their academic success. These two things are not mutually exclusive and will help our students move on from RCTC to successful careers or four year opportunities. I look forward to the future of RCTC football under Coach Hintz and his staff's direction.”

Dr. Michael Anthony, RCTC’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management adds, “I am excited to see what’s in store for Yellowjacket Football under Coach Hintz’s leadership. I believe he has the history, skills, and passion to help our players achieve their goals on and off the field. I am thankful to AD Mike Lester and his search team for finding an outstanding coach to lead our team.

Coach Hintz has his BS in Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and his M. Ed. in Applied Kinesiology-Sports Science from the University of Minnesota. Coach Hintz teaches Technology Education and Engineering at Byron High School. Hintz and his wife, Deb, have a son Matthew, and daughter, Maddeson, who is a Yellowjacket volleyball player.
