RCTC baseball earns split against MN Post Grad

Rochester Community and Technical College and Minnesota Post Grad split a Monday doubleheader on March 30, 2026, with each team claiming a sharply different kind of win. The opener was a grueling pitchers' duel decided by one swing, while the nightcap saw RCTC's offense erupt to secure a convincing bounce-back victory.

Game One: Minnesota Post Grad 1, RCTC 0

The first game was dominated by pitching on both sides, but Minnesota Post Grad ace Caleb Jahnke proved to be the difference. Jahnke tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just five hits and no walks while striking out 11 over seven innings. He faced 25 batters and consistently worked ahead, throwing 62 of his 90 pitches for strikes.

RCTC had chances, collecting five singles and a double from Derek Encarnacion, but could not string together enough offense to break through. Jahnke worked out of multiple tight spots, including a clean escape from pressure in the sixth, to keep the Yellowjackets off the board.

The game's lone run came in the top of the fifth inning when Clark Traxler-Menz rode the wind for a solo homer to right field off Sam Johnston. That swing snapped a scoreless tie and ultimately stood as the difference. RCTC starter Jack Babcock was strong in his own right, throwing 3.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Johnston was tagged with the loss, while Harmon Zylstra closed out the final outs without further damage.

Game Two: RCTC 9, Minnesota Post Grad 6

The tone shifted dramatically in the second game. Minnesota Post Grad jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the first inning, aided by aggressive baserunning and timely singles. However, RCTC responded with a three-run fourth inning and never looked back.

The Yellowjackets broke the game open behind a balanced offensive effort, scoring in four different innings and totaling nine runs on nine hits. Aiden Yochim delivered the biggest blow, driving in four runs, including a three-run single during a decisive six-run sixth inning. Conner Cullen continued his strong day at the plate with two hits and an RBI, while Matt Dollaghan, Dylan Balazovic, and Jerry Fletcher all contributed key run-producing plays.

On the mound, Bo Boettcher earned the win with five solid innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) and striking out seven. Nate Vaughn bridged the late innings before Koda Sanders recorded the final out to secure the save.

Minnesota Post Grad plated three unearned runs in the seventh to make the score more respectable, but the outcome was no longer in doubt.

The Jackets are scheduled to take on UW-River Falls on Wednesday and then MN Post Grad at home in a double-header on Friday.  With snow in the forecast for the week, the status of those games is uncertain.
