Myrtle Beach, SC - The RCTC Yellowjacket baseball team spent their spring break at the Cal Ripken Experieince in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Jackets finished the trip with a 5-4 record and are ready to hit the ground running for the regular season.
On day one the Jackets dropped a pair of games to Morton College, 6-1 and 6-2. RCTC's Augusto Mungarrieta was 2-4 with a double in game one to pace the Jackets. Game two saw Riley Forbes, Logan O'Hara, and Griffin Olson all go 1-3. Forbes picked up a double, while Mungarrieta and Luis Rodriguez each picked up RBI's.
Day two saw the Jackets get on the winning track with a double-header sweep of the College of Dupage. Game one saw RCTC win 9-8, as they held on to give Rees Campanale the win. Campanale went 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 6. Griffin Olson earned the save. Mungarrieta's bat stayed hot as he went 2-4 with a double, homerun, 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Logan O'Hara was 2-4 with 2 double and 3 RBI's. Game two saw Quinn Larsen pick up a pair of RBI's, while Mungarrieta was 2-2 with a double. Luis Rodriguez and Teagun Ahrens also picked up doubles and an RBI apiece.
Day three saw the Jackets win again, 8-5 over PSU- Kensington. Rees Campanale was 2-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Logan O-Hara also doubled, was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Augusto Mugarrieta and Luis Rodriguez each homered and picked up 3 RBI in the game. Zach Carr went 5 innings, allowing 0 hits, while Carter Dylla got the win in relief. On gameday #4 the Jackets took out the JV of Cairn University 12-0. Jerry Santiago got the win, going 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits while striking out 9. Mungarrieta was 3-4 with a double and a pair of RBI's. Griffin Olson, Luis Rodriguez, and Teagun Ahrens all picked up doubles in the game. The Jackets hammered out 16 hits.
Day Five of game play for RCTC saw the win streak come to an end, as they split a pair on the day. The Jackets fell 8-1 to Delaware Technical and Community College, before bouncing back with a 14-10 win over the JV of Manhattanville College. In the game one loss the Jackets picked up just 6 hits. Riley Forbes had an RBI single for the Jackets lone run. The Jacket bats didn't stay quiet for long as the bounced back with a 14 run, 15 hit outburst against Manhattanville. Mungarrietta had a homerun and a double as he went 2-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Quinn Larsen was 2-3 with a triple and 3 runs scored, while Ian Provenzano was 2-4 with a double, a triple, and 4 RBI.
RCTC's spring tour schedule came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Penn State - Kensington. The Jackets Carter Dylla and Ian Provenzano gave up only 4 hits combined in the loss. RCTC could only manage 3 hits themselves. Mungarrietta finished his week with a 1-2 day at the plate, while Caleb Beavers and Kyle Bechtel picked up the Jackets other hits.
RCTC is next on the field on March 21st as the travel to Des Moines to take on Grandview College.
