Yellowjacket baseball secures at least Co-Southern Division title

LaCrosse, WI - With their doubleheader sweep of Western Tech today, the RCTC Yellowjackets have secired at leas a Co-Southern Division Baseball title.  The Jackets are now 14-2 in the conference, while Century College is 10-2 with 4 games yet to play.  The two teams split their season series.

In the two game sweep of the Cavaliers, the Jackets waited until extra innings in game one for their bats to come alive, as they downed WTC 11-4 in 8 innings.  There were no extra inning heroics needed in game two as the Jackets got a combined 5 hit shutout from T Mickelson and Carlos Martinez to win 6-0.

With the two teams tied at 4 going into the 8th inning RCTC got an RBI single from Klayton Hawkins, followed by a single by Gustavo Gonzalez, and a 2 RBI double by Gabe Sepulveda to seal the win.  Zebastian Bolduc added a sacrifice fly and Sepulveda scored on a balk by the RCTC pitcher.  Landon Stoppelmoor got the win in relief of Luke Dudycha.  The sophomore threw six innings, allowing only three hits and no runs.

Game two saw RCTC pitchers shutdown the Cavalier offense.  Mickelson, in his first start coming off of injury, allowed only 1 hit in 2 innings of work, while Martinez scattered 4 hits over 5 innings.  The Jackets got all the offense they would need as Izaak Stevens doubled in the 2nd to score Blake Schilling.  RCTC tacked on 4 more runs in the 5th as Sepulveda homered, and Stevens and Hawkins each singled.

The Jackets have non-conference games remaining on their regular season schedule versus Saint Mary's University JV and Minnesota Post Grad, before beginning their regional tournament run.
