Yellowjackets run win streak to 12 with sweep of Western Tech

Rochester, MN - On another overcast day in the low 40's the RCTC baseball team got a 4 hit shut-out from Drew Simmons in game one, and a display of team power in game two to down the Cavaliers of Western Tech 4-0, and 14-4 at RBC#4 today.

The two wins pushed the Jackets win streak to 12 and gave them a 12-2 conference record.  In game one, it was Simmons who led the charge on the hill as the sophomore from Stewartville, MN scattered only four hits in earning the complete game shutout win.  Simmons struck out 6 of the first 8 batters he faced en route to a 9 strikeout, 0 walk performance.  RCTC gave Simmons all the support he would need in the first inning as the first three batters had hits.  Jovan Marrero singled to lead off, Gustavo Gonzalez then doubled to put runners on second and third.  Gabe Sepulveda then laced an RBI single to right to score Marrero.  Gonzalez then scored on a wild pitch, and Sepulveda scored on a Carlos Martinez sacrifice fly.  

RCTC's final run was scored in the fifth as the Jackets executed a perfect delayed steal.  Jovan Marrero broke from second base drawing a throw.  Marrero then intentionally got into a rundown allowing Christian Bruno to make a run for home and beat the throw to the plate.

The Jackets offense them came to lifge in game two, as they pounded out 15 hits, 3 homeruns, and 2 doubles on the way to the 14-4 five inning win.  Alec Dietl got the win in relief of Brady Nelson.  Dietl went four innings, allowing only 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3.  Western claimed an early 4-0 lead after the top of the first but the Jackets answered right back with 4 of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Zebastian Bolduc doubled to score Marrero, and then Gabe Sepulveda scored on a passed ball.  Blake Schilling singled to score Bolduc, and then Schilling scored when the Western Tech shortstop made a throwing error.

From the first inning on it was all Jackets as Gustavo Gonzalez, Zebastian Bolduc, and Klayton Hawkins all homered in the game.  The Jackets scored 3 in both the second and third innings, 1 in the fourth, and finished the game wth 3 in the bottom of the fifth.  Bolduc was 3-4 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. Gonzalez also picked up 3 hits with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Blake Schilling was 3-4 with 3 RBI and a run scored as well.  Sepulveda and Hawkins each picked up a pair of hits.

The Jackets and Cavaliers face off Tuesday in the final two games of their four game series.  The games will be held at Logger's Field in LaCrosse with first pitch set for 1:00pm.
