Yellowjacket baseball earns split in back half of 4 game series

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets and the Itasca CC Vikings took the field on a beautiful day for baseball to complete their four-game series on Saurday.  The two teams put on an offensive display as the Vikings took game one 17-6 only to have the Yellowjackets walk-off in game two with a 10-9 win.

In game one the Vikings pounded out 15 hits, scored 8 runs in the third and 6 in the fifth for the win.  RCTC got a double and an RBI from Blake Schilling, as well as RBI's from Steven Shallcross and Shota Sawamura.

Game two was a back and forth affair througout. RCTC put up 5 runs in the first, only to have Itasca answer with 4 in the second.  RCTC responded quickly with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the second to tak an 8-4 lead.  Itasca then put up 3 in the third, 1 in the fourth and 1 in the sith to take a 9-8 lead into the Jacket half of the sixth inning.  RCTC tied the game with a sacrifice fly by Trenton Dahnert to score Grant Miskimmins.

Blake Schilling came on to pitch a perfect seventh setting up the Jackets for some late game heroics.  Schilling led off the inning with a basehit to right, only to be forced out at second on a sacrifice bunt attemt by Isaac Stevens.  After the Yellowjackets loaded the bases it was reigning MCAC Southern Division Player of the week Shota Sawamura with the opportunity to deliver for RCTC.  Deliver he did as he laced a line drive to left field to score Stevens with the walk-off game winner.

Sawamura went 4-6 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI on the day.  Schilling, who picked up the win in game two, went 3-5 with 2 doubles a run scored and 3 RBI.

RCTC went 3-1 in the four game series, as they swept the first two games on Friday.

RCTC next takes to the field as they travel to DCTC Wednesday for a 2:30pm single game.  They are back at home next Saturday for the first half of a four game series with Southern Division for Century College.
