Rochester, MN - The RCTC women's volleyball took to the road on Wednesday night, heading west to take on #10 ranked MN West in a Southern Division showdown. After a slow start in set one which saw the Jackets trailing 7-2 Coach Amber Zitzow's team showed why they are the #1 ranked team in the nation as they downed the LadyJays 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, and 25-19).
The Yellowjackets, who were playing their first match with out injured OH Hayley Dessner, struggled to find a rhythm with their new line-up early in the match. That, paired with an enthusiastic crowd helped MN West to the early lead. As the match continued, however, the Jackets settled in and played consistent high level volleyball, rarely allowing the LadyJays to get into their offensive system.
RCTC's serving kept MN West off balance all night, and despite only 6 service aces in the three games, MN West found themselves out of system because of their first ball contact and the aggressive serving of the Jackets.
The Yellowjacket offense was lead by Carrie Rutledge and her21 kills (.372). The RCTC middle hitters each added 9 kills with AnnMarie Jalmasco hitting .562 and Molly Kleist hitting .231. It was Brekkin McCready leading the way and dishing out 46 assists, while Kate Bade and McCready each were in double figures in digs with 18 and 14 respectively.
The Yellowjackets are right back on the road with a couple of big MCAC match-ups. They head to Ridgewater on Friday night for a 6:30 mtach before taking on MN State Fergus Falls on Saturday at noon.
