Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket volleyball team has gotten off to a great start on the season. Headinginto this past weekends Yellowjacket Invitationl RCTC was 9-0 and hadn't dropped a single set on the season. After the conclusion of the weekend tha Jackets still have yet to fall in a match as they went 4-0 on the weekend, and moved to 13-0 on the season.
The tournament, which featured some of the top NJCAA Division III teams in the nation and several top NJCAA Division II teams in the region was played at the Regional Sports Center. RCTC opened the tournament with a 3-1 against Division II Des Moines Area Community College, and followed that up with a 3-1 win over the College of Dupage. On day two the Jackets swept past Madison College, before once again downing an NJCAA Division II foe, North Iowa Community College, by a 3-1 score.
Against DMACC, the Jackets were lead by Hayley Dessner with 22 kills and a .319 hitting percentage. CarrieRutledge added 12 kills for RCTC while Brekkin McCready contributed 45 assists. Kate Bade lead the defense with 24 digs in the match. Joining Bade in double figures defensively were Rutledge (13), Dessner (12), and Gabby Speltz (10). AnnMarie Jalmasco had a season high 5 blocks.
In the second match of the day against COD, it was Rutledge leading the way offensively with 17 kills. Dessner added 11, while Jalmasco had 8 kills with 0 errors and a .667 hitting percentage. McCready had 44 assists.
The Jackets opened day two with their second 3-0 sweep of Madison College on the season. Rutledge once again lead the way with 19 kills, while Dessner added 13 and a .480 hitting percentage. Bade had 15 digs and McCready had 35 assists.
RCTC concluded the tournament, taking on their second Division II team of the weekend, and handed NIACC a 3-1 defeat. RCTC was lead by Dessner's 21 killsand .378 hitting percentage. Rutledge added 10 kills, and Jalmasco once again was efficient in punding out 9 kills and a .533 hitting percentage. McCready chipped in 51 assists, while Bade lead the way with 16 digs.
RCTC hits the road in southern division play on Wednesday, September 11th. The Jackets head to MN West to take on the Lady Jays at 6:30pm.
