RCTC Earns Win in Final Match of Invite to go 1-3

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket volleyball team stepped out of MCAC play this past weekend to host the RCTC Yellowjacket Invitational.  The tournament featured 14 teams playing four matches each over the course of two days in the Sports Center.  The Yellowjackets who took on scholarship schools from outside their division ended the weekend with a 1-3 record.

In match one on Friday, the Jackets faced off agains Des Moines Area Community College.  In a hard fought match against the scholarship school the Jackets fell 0-3 (16-25, 19-25, and 23-25).  Rctc was led by FY outside hitter Carrie Rutledge with 10 kills.  Brekkin McCready chipped in 25 assists while Katlyn Bade added 12 digs.

In the second match of the day RCTC took on another Division I opponenet from Bismarck State College.  The Jackets once again competed at a high level this time falling 1-3 (22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 19-25) to the Jacks.  After a tightly contested first set it was all RCTC in set 2 as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.  Sets 3 and 4 were tight throughout with BSC pulling away at the end.  Rutledge again led RCTC in kills with 19 while Hailey Bahr chipped in 10.  McCready added 40 assists and Heidi Wulf and Katlyn Bade each added 12 digs.

Day two of the tournament started just as Day one ended with a tightly contested match-up against a scholarship school.  This time RCTC fell to NDSCS by the scores of 22-25, 6-25, and 21-25.  Rutledge and Bahr each had 8 kills, as the Jacket offense failed to get on track hitting only .035 for the contest.

In the final match of the day RCTC got on the winning track downing Bryant & Stratton College 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22).  Rutledge had 14 kills while Bahr chipped in 10.  McCready haded out 31 assists and Alexis Dudycha led the Jackets with 10 digs.

For the tournament Rutledge had 51 kills Bahr had 34, McCready had 116 assists and Katlyn Bade had 39 digs.

RCTC is back in action taking on Anoka-Ramsey Saturday, September 15th with first serve scheduled for noon at the Sports Center...
