Rochester, MN - The MCAC announced the volleyball southern all-division awards today. The 20-8 (12-0 MCAC) Southern Division Champion RCTC Yellowjackets were well represented. Freshman outside hitter Carrie Rutledge was named the Divisional Player of the Year and a member of the First Team. Joining Rutledge on the First Team was freshman setter Brekkin McCready. Rutledge, from Hayfield, MN, is #2 in the MCAC in kills per set and ranked #8 nationally. McCready who is from St. Charles, MN is #1 in both the MCAC and the nation in assists per set.
Representing the Yellowjackets on the Second Team are sophomore middle hitter Mariah Steinbach and freshman libero Katlyn Bade. Steinbach is hitting.292 on the season and is averaging 2.26 kills and .73 blocks per set. Bade, is leading the Yellowjackets in digs per set at 3.80, while also averaging .37 service aces per set.
Coach Amber Zitzow who guided the Yellowjackets to an undefeated MCAC Southern Division schedule was named Division Coach of the Year. Zitzow's Yellowjackets went 12-0 in division play dropping only one set along the way (36-1). Under Zitzow's guidance the Jackets are 20-8 overall and currently ranked #3 in the nation. They are ranked #2 in the country in both kills per set and assists per set, while coming in at #5 in the national rankings in points per set.
The Yellowjackets start their post-season run this Friday at home in the Sports Center. RCTC will be taking on St. Cloud Community and Technical College at 6:00pm in the opening round of the Region XIIIA Tournament. The winner of the tournament earns the regions automatic berth into the NJCAA National tournament hosted by RCTC and Rochester Sports November 8-10.
