Rochester, MN - Who could rebound from tough losses the night before? That was the question facing Coach Amber Zitzow's RCTC Yellowjackets, and Coach Jane Peterson's CLC Raiders heading in to their showdown for 3rd place in the NJCAA National Tournament. The answer did not become clear until the end as both teams played well throughout a back and forth match. It was the Yellowjackets, however, who won the critical rallies at the end of each set leading to a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-23) sweep of the Radiers and a 3rd place national finish!
In a rematch of the two teams opening season 5 set thriller (which CLC won 15-13 in the fifth), the two teams battled to extra points in the first set, and went the distance in set three. The entire match was tightly contested as RCTC had 39 kills to 38 for CLC, hit .145, to 126, had 37 assists to CLC's 38, and had 40 digs to CLC's 45. The two statistical categories that really swung the match in RCTC's favor were serving (5 aces to 2), and blocking (9 to 4).
In perhaps her best match of the season Ann-Marie Jalmasco finished with 9 kills on 13 attempts with 0 errors (.692), and 5 blocks. Carrie Rutledge had 10 kills, 6 digs, and 3 blocks for the Jackets, while Mariah Steinbach added 9 kills and 3 blocks. Brekkin McCready had 33 assists, 7 digs, and 3 blocks, while Alexis udycha led RCTC with 8 digs.
