Rochester, MN - Behind 46 kills and a team hitting percentage of .309 RCTC locked up a spot in the 2017 Region XIII volleyball tournament.
While the Yellowjacket offense was clicking right along led by Maddie Hintz's 39 assists, it was the defense that really made the difference in the match. Coach Amber Zitzow's team averaged over 20 digs per set with three players in double figures including Hintz, (10), Lauren Laurkoski (12), and a team leading 21 for Kazlin Thompson. Thompson's 21 digs comes on the heels of a 26 dig performance on Friday night vs. MN State - Fergus Falls.
The RCTC offense boasted three players in double figures including Tara Rogers' 20 kill and .346 hitting percentage performance. Joining Rogers in double figures were Mariah Steinbach (11k / .476) and Brooke Wendland (12k / .300). The Yellowjackets only recorded one ace serve in the match, but it was the serving success that really ket Ridgewater on their heels. Solid serving strategy and execution kept Ridgewater out of system most of the match and didn't allow the high powered Warrior offense the opportunity to get in rhythm.
RCTC now begins preparations for the Region XIII tournament that will be hosted by St. Cloud Tech next weekend.
