Soccer to take on LSC in First Round of Regional Tournament

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjackets women's soccer team will take to the road for the first round of the NJCAA Regional soccer tournament this Thursday, October 18th. The Jackets will make the trip to Duluth to take on the Lake Superior College Icehawks.

The Teams:

2 Seed Lake Superior College (3-7-1)

3 Seed Rochester Community and Technical College (0-7-2)

Season Meetings:  

The Yellowjackets and Icehawks have met twice this season.  On September 8th the two teams played to a 2-2 double overtime tie.  In the game, RCTC got two goals from first year forward Valya Urbach, and assists by Monika Vargas and Mackenzie Swanson-Larson.  LSC's goals came from Callie Swanson and Jewel Hiukka.

In the rematch, LSC earned the hard-fought 2-1 win in Duluth.  The Jackets goal was scored by Kallie Keller, off an assist from Micayla Biffert.

Preview:

Thursday's game will be held at the NBC Spartan sports Complex in Superior, WI.  First whistle is scheduled for 6:00pm.  The Jackets who have been playing short-handed due to injury for the last several weeks hope to have some key performers back in the line-up for Thursday night.  Playmaker Greta Cruz should be back on the field controlling things in the midfield, while goalkeeper Sarah Baack should be back in the net as well.  Sydney Vrieze, who has stepped into the net in Baack's absence will be moved back onto the field helping with the Jacket defense.
