Superior, WI - The RCTC Yellowjackets fell to Lake Superior two times during the regular season, but the third time proved to be the charm, as RCTC dealt LSC a 2-1 OT defeat in the first round of the Region XIII tournament. Having played a tough non-conference match on Wednesday night the Jackets got on the bus and headed north today for the opening round match of the tournament, and made it a trip worth remembering.
The Yellowjackets on the strength of a stingy defense and good goalkeeping outshot Lake Superior throughout the contest and the two teams ended regulation tied 1-1 with Manigbe Kenneh accounting for the Yellowjacket goal. During regulation goalkeeper Micah Jeppesen saved a penalty kick to keep the game deadlocked. Then only a minute and a half into overtime lightning struck for the Yellowjackets as Shelby Bailey scored off a corner kick to seal the win and send RCTC to the Region Final.
RCTC will travel to Anoka-Ramsey to take on the #1 ranked Golden Rams on Sunday October 22nd at noon.
