Rochester, MN - RCTC women's basketball coach Steve Hucke has been saying for the last week that his Yellowjackets were turning a corner. They had played really well over the past 10 days including leading Anoka-Ramsey at the half last Saturday. The Yellowjackets proved their coach correct tonight in a 99-38 win over Ridgewater at the Sports Center.
The Jackets defense was the key to their offense as they forced 38 Ridgewater turnovers which led to 40 points. Kyleigh Wangen and Arianna Owens led the Jackets with 5 steals each on the night. The Jackets only tuend the ball over 6 times for the game. In addition to the forced turnovers, the Yellowjackets held Ridgewater to only 29% shooting from the floor.
On the offensive side of the court RCTC hit at a 44% clip on the night. The Jackets had four players in double figures with Olivia Matti pouring in a creer high 30 points on 13/21 shooting. Joining Matti in double figures were Grace Riley with 23, Alyssa Whitson with 18, and Amber Chapel with 10. Whitson led the Jackets in rebounding earning a double double with 10 boards to go along with her 18 points.
RCTC got off to a great start leading 27-8 after the first quarter, and never looked back outscoring Ridgewater, 23-11 in thesecond, 23-12 in the third and 26-7 in the fourth.
