Rochester, MN - The RCTC women's basketball team won all for periods enroute to a 60-53 win over Itasca Community College on a snowy Saturday morning at the Regional Sports Center. Both teams struggled out of the gates after playing late night games on Friday night, combining for just 19 points in the first quarter. Quarter number two proved to be all Itasca as they took a 26-22 lead into the half.
The Jackets came out of the break and took control of the game with an 11-0 run and a 39-34 lead heading into the final frame. RCTC built their lead to as many as 13 (52-39) in the fourth before settling for the 7 point win.
The Yellowjackets continued their balance attack as nine players cored in the game. Grace Riley led the Jackets with 15 points while Alyssa Whitson joined her in double figures with 10. Olivia Matti dropped in 9 and Abby Bauer added 7 to the cause. In addition to her 15 points, Riley also led the Jackets with 8 rebounds. Bauer had 7 and Whitson added 6.
RCTC outscored Itasca 26-0 off the bench and 21-12 from beyond the 3 point arc. Defensively the Jackets held Itasca to on 27% from the field and 17% from beyond the arc.
RCTC goes on the road next weekend, taking on both Hibbing and rainy River (Friday and Saturday).
