Iowa Falls, IA - The RCTC Yellowjacket women's basketball team, fresh off of a trip to the NJCAA Division III national tournament a year ago kicked off the season at Division II Ellsworth Community College. The Jackets decided to make Coach Steve Hucke sweat a bit in the opener, needing overtime to down the Panthers by a final score of 80-73.
The Yellowjackets (1-0) featured a balanced attack that should prove to be the teams key to success as the season progresses. RCTC featured four (4) players in double figures on the night. Grace Riley led all scorers with 21 points, 15 on 5 made 3 pointers. Joining the Jacket sophomore in double figures were first year players Ariana Owens (18) and Matti Hellrud with 11. Sophomore Abby Bauer also scored in double figures, dropping in 10 points. RCTC held a 42-31 rebounding edge with Kyleigh Wange leading the way (9). RCTC shot 45% from the floor while holding Ellsworth to 35.6%.
RCTC is right back in action facing North Iowa Area Community College. NIACC is 3-0 on the young season, and 1-0 in the tournament at Ellsworth, downing marshaltown 111-65 in their opener. Tip-off for the game is set for 11:00am.
