Anoka, MN - The RCTC women's basketball team closed out the 2018 portion of their schedule this weekend at the Anoka Ramsey Classic this past weekend. The Yellowjackets faced off against the JV team of the University of St. Thomas in the opening game on Friday, falling by the score of 47-49. On Saturday, The Jackets took on Bismarck State College falling 53-89.
In a closely contested game throughout against St. Thomas, Grace Riley lead the Yellowjackets with 17 points. Joining Riley in double figures were Olivia Matti (12) and Alyssa Whitson (11). Neither team could find the shooting touch early in the game as RCTC took a 9-6 lead into the second quarter. It was UST who hit their stride in the second as they put up 17 points to take 23-15 lead into the break.
The third period was all RCTC as the Yellowjackets exploded for 21 points as the teams entered the final period deadlocked at 36. It was St. Thomas who outlasted the Jackets down the stretch for the win. RCTC shot 34% from the field and hit on 4-15 from beyond the arc.
Game two against Bismarck State was a tale of two quarters for the Jackets. In quarters one and three RCTC held their own, trailing 47-39, but it was quarters two and four that proved to be their undoing. The Jackets managed only 14 points while allowing 42. The Jackets once again got 15 points from Grace Riley while Arianna Owens added 10 off the bench. RCTC struggled from the field hittinv on 13-59 attempts (22%). The Jackets did get to the line 32 times in the game as the Mystics had 25 fouls. RCTC hit on 20 attempts for 62.5%.
The Jackets are now off until January 4th and 5th when they head back to Anoka for the Anoka Ramsey Tournament. They will take on the JV of St. Catherine's University and then Hibbing Community College.
