Worthington, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket women's basketball team erupted for 92 points en route to their semi-final Region win over Anoka-Ramsey at MN West today. With the win the Yellowjackets earned a Championship game showdown against host MN West, with a bid to the NJCAA National Tournament in Rockford, IL on the line.
Anoka Ramsey got off to a good start early, holding a 16-14 lead after the first quarter, but it was quarter #2 that really set the tone for the contest. RCTC outscored Anoka by 13 (29-26) in that decisive period for a 43-32 lead at the half. In the third period the Yellowjackets extended the lead to 17 before settling for the 92-76 victory.
The Jackets were lead in scoring by Nautika Kotero who dropped in 26 points on 10-26 shooting. Jalysa Cutting added 16, Grace Riley, pured in 15, and Olivia Haug was the fourth Jacket in double figures with 13. ANoka was lead by Kaylee Porisch who scored a game high 35 points.
Once again it was the RCTC defense that proved critical in the win as they held the GOlden Rams to only 40% shooting on the night. The Jackets on the other hand shot 55% from the field. RCTC also outrebounded the Rams 42-30 for the game.
RCTC will hope that the third time is the charm as they face the host MN West in the title game tomorrow at 2:00pm. The Jackets have lost twice to the Lady Jays, including a 68-72 defeat just last week in the final regular season game of the season.
