Worthington, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket women's basketball team struggles from the free throw line proved costly in their 72-68 loss to MN West today. The Yellowjackets were 14-21 from the line (66%), and were outscored by 6 at the stripe by MN West. In a battle of the top two teams in the Southern DIvision of the MCAC both teams came out strong and ended the first period with MN West leading 15-14.
RCTC looked to take control of the contest outscoring MN West 22-14 in the second period to take a 36-29 lead into halftime. The Lady Jays turned the tables on the Jackets outscoring RCTC by the score of 25-14 in the third, before hanging on to take the game and the Southern Division title.
Both teams defenses were on full display as RCTC held MN West to only 37% shooting for the game. MN West displayed great defense of their own, holding RCTC to only 34% shooting on the night. Both teams turned the ball over more than 20 times for the game.
RCTC was lead by Olivia Haug with another double-double (15 points, 16 rebounds). Joining Haug in double figures were: Nautika Kotero (20 points), and Grace Riley (17 points).
RCTC will be right back on the road travelling right back to Worthington for the 13A Championships (hosted by MN West). RCTC will open play at 4:00 on Saturday, March 3rd versus Anoka-Ramsey. With a win against the Golden Rams RCTC will play in the Championship game for a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament on Sunday, March 4th, with tipoff scheduled for 2:00pm.
