Rockford, IL - After a hard-fought and tightly-contested loss in the NJCAA Quarterfinals versus UConn- Avery Point on Thursday night the RCTC women are right back on the National Championship stage today at 3:00. The #6 seeded Jackets will take on the #7 seeded Onondaga Community College Lazers, who fell to #2 seeded Hostos in another Quartfinal by the score of 73-64.
The Lazers, now 26-7 on the season are the Champions of Region 3 in the NJCAA out of New York. The game should be a battle of two similar teams as both teams have a solid inside out game. Morgan Deland also helps control the paint for the Lazers, averaging 14.3 points per game and 8 rebounds.
The teams are very similar statistically as well. Onondaga averages 77 points per game to RCTC's 76. RCTC shoots 42.7% from the field while the Lazers hit on 41% of their shots. The Jackets have a good advatage from behind the arc as they hit on 34% compared to the Lazer's 25% from behind the arc.
Today's game could very well be decided by which team bounces back from tough losses last night. In Onodaga's game versus Hostos, the Lazers lead for a majority of the contest before the Hostos full-court pressure took its toll in the final quarter. For RCTC, their 98-93 loss to UPAC was an up and down, knockdown, dragout battle from start to finish.
