The Rochester Community and Technical College Women's basketball begins its run toward the NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball Championships today in Rockford, IL at host Rock Valley Community College. The Yellowjackets (23-6 overall and 12-2 MCAC) are seeded #6 in the eight team field. Their opening round opponent #3 seeded Uconn-Avery Point also is 23-6 on the season. Tipoff for the Opening Round game is at 8:00 pm.
Key performers for the teams include for RCTC Nautika Kotero who was just recently name First Team All-State by the MCAC. Kotero ranks 2nd in the league in assists, 4th in steals, and 12th in points per game. Olivia Haug, also First team All-State ranks 3rd in rebounding, 14th in blocks, and 17th in points per game. A third key performer will be second team All-State honoree Grace Riley. Riley leads the league in 3-point percentage and is 7th in scoring.
For UConn-Avery Point players to watch include: Tatyanna LaFrance-Boyce. A first Team All-Region Selection who lead the Pointers in scoring with 22.4 points per game. A well rounded guard, LaFrance-Boyce also averaged 9.5 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game. Megan Bianchi joins LaFrance-Boyce in the backcourt and is currently 3rd in the NJCAA with 7.7 assists per game, she also averaged 10.7 points per contest.
One of the keys to the game could be the individual battle between RCTC's Haug, and the Pointer's Charee Osborne. Both pl;ayers come into the contest averagin double-doubles in points and rebounds for the season.
