Myrtle Beach, SC - The RCTC Yellowjackets started their season in solid form at the Early Bird tournament in the RCTC dome in late February. The Jackets went 2-1 in the dome and scored 23 runs in three games. After playing indoors for the first three games of the year the Jackets were anxoius to get outside and play on their Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.
Unfortunately for RCTC their hot bats and high-powered offense didn't quite make it off the bus in theri first two games, as they were shout by to very good teams on Day one of their trip. Mohawk Valley dropped RCTC 9-0 in game one, and John Wood CC, shut-out the Jackets 8-0 in game two. Against Mohawk Valley, pitcher Emma Bartholomew thew four strong injuries before being sidelined with an injury. Mohawk Valley then erupted for 7 runs over the last two innings to seal the win. The Jackets got two singles, one from Hailee Welsh, and the other from Haylee Sawyer in the loss. Bartholomew cam back in game two and threw 5 innings, giving up 8 runs (only 3 earned) in the loss to John Wood CC. The Jackets could muster only one hit, a single by Caitlyn Sowieja.
The Yellowjackets second day was highlighted with a plit of their double-header against SUNY Adirondack. RCTC dropped game won 10-3, before bouncing back with a 5-3 win in game two. Isabella Gilk went 5 innings giving up 10 runs in game one. Gilk, along with Lexi Newsom and Amber Chapel each had 2 hits in the game, as Chapel had 2 doubles. Haylee Sawyer had 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
In the game 2 win, it was Bartholomew again throwing a gem. The freshman allowed only 4 hits and 3 runs over 7 innings, while striking out 11. The RCTC offense was sparked by Mattie Hellerud's 4th homerun of the season. Hellerud picked up 2 RBI and scored once. Amanda Johnson had two hits, including a double and an RBI, while Amber Chapel picked up a double and an RBI.
