Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket softball team picked up a key split in their double header against MN State Fergus Falls. The Jackets fell in the opener 7-10, before winning game two in convincing fashion 14-6 in 5 innings.
In the first ever games played on the new Championship Filed on the campus of RCTC it was MN State that got on the board early in game one, as the Spartans scored 6 runs in the third inning. The Jackets chipped away at the lead scoring at least one run in innings 3-7 but just couldn't put together the one "big" inning to get over the top. Abi Folkert went 3-5 with an RBI, 2 runs scored and 3 doubles to lead RCTC. Abby Bauer and Hailee Stock also each picked up 3 hits in the game.
In game two, the tables were turned as the Jackets got out to an early lead and never looked back. RCTC scored 4 runs in each of the first two innings, and then 3 runs in both the thurd and fourth to secure the 5 inning win. Folkert was 2-4 with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Bauer was 2-3 with a double, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Joining the hit parade were Amber Chapel who was 2-3 with a double, and Mattie Hellerud with a triple 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The split kept RCTC's playoff hopesvery much alive as they are battling with Ridgeatwer and Fergus Falls for the 3rd and 4th post-season spots. The Jackets head to Riverland on Tuesday to take on the Blue Devils with first pitche scheduled for 3:00.
