Fergus Falls, MN - With 5 games in two days to determine their post-season hopes, the RCTC softball team got off to a good start with a split over playoff bound Fergus Falls today. RCTC won game one 8-1 in convincing fashion before falling in a heartbreaker 12-13 in the nightcap. Game one was all RCTC has pitcher Hailee Stock held the high-powered Spartans to only one run over 7 innings. Stock helped herself out on the mound with a double and two runs scored. Mattie Hellorud had 2 RBI in the win.
Game two looked to be all Yellowjackets as well as they lead 11-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th. From their the tables turned however as the Spartams scored 5 in their half of the inning before putting up 3 more in the 7th for the walk-off win. RCTC had 18 hits in the game including a 3-5 performance by Abby Bauer. Bauer had homerun number 4 on the season and scored twice. Cassie Voth, Hailee Stock, and Bauer all had 3 hits on the day, while Mattie Hellerud, Makenzie Swanson, Amber Chapel, and Katie Pearson each added 2. Stock, Swanson and Hellerud each had 2 RBI.
RCTC closes out the regular season with 3 critical games on Saturday. First up is a double header versus Ridgewater, a sweep would earn RCTC a berth in the Regional tournament. Once those games are complete in Willmar, the Yellowjackets will head to St. Cloud to play the final game of a double header that was rained out earlier in the year.
