RCTC drops pair of double headers to league leaders

Rochester, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket softball team put their 5 game winning streak on the line over the weekend as they welcomed the two league leaders to the softball complex.  The Jackets fell on Friday to Anoka-Ramsey  11-1 and 14-9.  Then on Saturday they completed the the tough weekend series with 11-0 and 9-7 losses to the Cyclones of St. Cloud Techinical and COmmunity College.

Katie Pearson went the distance for the Yellowjackets on the mound for all for games.  Against Anoka RCTC struggled getting their bats going in the opener, as Makenzie Swanson-Larson had the lone Yellowjacket hit and scored the only run for RCTC.  Katie Pearson picked up the RBI. 

In game two the Jacket bats came alive as they scored 9 runs, and were trailing only 9-8 after four innings.  Neither team scored in the fifth before Noka plated 2 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to close out the game.  Cassie Voth, Abi Folkert, and Swancon-Larson each had three hits in the game.  Mattie Hellerud had her 4th homerun on the season and picked up 2 RBI's. Swanson-Larson picked up 3 RBI's  on the game while Abi Folkert score 3 times.

Day two of the challenging weekend, started out similar to day one as the Jackets struggled at the plate against St. Cloud.  The Jackets picked up just one hit (Abi Folkert) as St. Cloud pitcher Sam Patton shut-out RCTC in leading ANoka to the 11-0 win.

Game two proved to be the best game of the weekend, as the Jackets lead the Cyclones 7-5 after two innings.  The Cyclones chipped away at the lead scoring, 2 in the 3rd 1 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to earn the win.  Amber Chapel had three hits and three RBI to lead the Yellowjacket attack. Cassie VOth, Mattie Hellerud, and Amanda Johnson each picked up a pair of hits as well.  Folkert and Hellerud each doubled, and Hellrud added three RBI.

The Jackets are back in action for another weekend double dip as they take on MN State Fergus Falls on Friday (3:00 and 5:00), followed by two games against Ridgewater on Saturday (noon and 2:00).
