Austin, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket softball team knows that they have a critical weekend coming up as they head on the road to Fergus Falls and Ridgewater, but first there was a southern division double header versus Riverland to attend to. The Jackets clearly were not looking past Riverland to the weekend as they swept the Blue Devils 24-3 and 27-4 to set-up the important weekend of games.
The Jacket offense took an inning to get rolling in game one as they lead 1-0 after the first. It was a 17 run inning number two that put them in the drivers seat. RCTC lead-off batter Cassie Voth set the tone as she went 4-6 with 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. The Jackets had 5 players with three hits each, including Abi Folkert (3-5) with a homerun, Mattie Hellerud (3-6) with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, Abby Bauer (3-6) with a homerun, a double and 4 RBI, Amber Chapel (3-5), with a homerun, 2 doubles, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, and Mackenzie Swanson-Larson (3-3) with a double, an RBI and 3 runs scored. Makara Fahrenhiltz joined the hit parade with 2 hits, including a double. Katie Pearson had 2 hits and scored 4 times for RCTC.
Hailee Stock got the win for RCTC going 5 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 8.
Game two proved to be nearly identical to game one as the Jackets took a 2-0 lead after inning number one before erupting for 14 runs in inning number two, enroute to the 27-4 win. RCTC pounded out 28 hits as a team lead by Amber Chapel who went 4-5 with a double 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Amanda Johnson aslo picked up 4 hits for the Jackets, including 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Katie Pearson had 4 hits in the game and scored 4 times as well. Voth, Folkert, Hellerud, and Stock all picked up 3 RBI in the game. In addition, Voth, Hellerud, Bauer, and Stock each added 3 hits. Voth picked up 4 steals on the game while Stock, Swanson-Larson, and Pearson each stole 3 bases.
Pearson got the win as she scattered 6 hits over five innings allowing 4 runs (only one earned).
RCTC now is set for a big weekend as they head to Fergus Falls and Ridgewater for four games. At the end of the weekend two of the three teams will have earned a berth in the Regional Tournament next week. In addition to the games against the two teams battling for a playoff berth, RCTC will play a make-up game late Saturday against St. Cloud.
