RCTC softball goes 4-1 at MCAC Crossover

Rochester, MN - Despite the rain over the weekend the RCTC Yellowjackets were able to play five "home" contests earning 4 wins at the MCAC Crossover hosted in the RCTC dome.  The Jackets nearly made it a perfect 5-0 weekend dropping only a thriller in walk-off fashion to MN State - Fergus Falls.

RCTC got out of the gates quickly in game one, downing Gogebic Community College 14-4 in 5 innings. Hailee Stock picked up the win going 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3.  The Jackets scored 5 in the first, then added 2 in innings 2, 3, and 4 before plating 3 in the 5th.  RCTC had 6 doubles on the game 2 each off the bats of Mattie Hellerud and Abi Folkert.

Game two vs MN-State proved to be the heartbreaker of the weekend as the Jackets got off to a great start with early homeruns by Helleredu, and Abby Bauer.  The Jackets lead 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th before the Spartans rallied for 4 to walk-off winners.

Day two of the event featured two lopsided RCTC wins as the downed Rainy River 14-5 in the day two opener and then Roverland 14-3 in the nightcap.  Sandwiched between those two games was a big 4-3 win against MCAC rival Ridgewater.

Game one versus Rainy River was close through 6 innings as the Jackets took a 7-5 lead into the final frame before putting 7 runs on the board in the 7th to secure the win.  RCTC got 3 RBI's from Abby Bauer, 2 each from Abi Folkert, and Katie Pearson, and 1 from Amber Chapel and Makara Fahrenhiltz.

Game two featured two teams that will be challenging for a berth in the Region XIII tournament at the end of the season.  RCTC jumped out early on Ridgewater getting a run in the second.  Ridgewater tied it up in the top of the 3rd before RCTC scored 2 more in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead.  Ridgewater would once again come back, plating 2 runs in the 5th.  Neither team could muster a run in the 6th and RCTC held Ridgewater in their half of the 7th.  In the bottom of the seventh, Cassie Voth scored on a walk-off single by Abby Bauer giving the Jackets the 4-3 win.  Bauer had 3 hits on 4 at bats in the game. Stock once again went the distance for the Jackets to earn the win.

In the final game of the tournament the Jackets, earned a 14-3 five inning win over Riverland.  Katie Pearson threw all 5 innings giving up 4 hits and 3 runs while walking 4 and striking out 4.  Abby Bauer was 2-3 with a triple.  Abi Folkert added a triple and 2 runs scored. Makenzie Swanson-Larson was 1-3 with a double, 3 runs scored and an RBI. Amber Chapel added a double and 3 RBI's for the contest.

RCTC hosts Riverland once again in the MCAC opener for both teams Tuesday evening at the softball complex.  This will be the first outdoor games for both teams!  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00.
