Rochester, MN - The RCTC men's basketball team held Anoka-Ramsey to only 23 first half points in tonight's game at the Sports Center. Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets Anoka's defense was just as stingy, holding RCTC to only 19 points. Both teams defense was clearly the key in tonight's game as neither team shot above 37% on the night.
RCTC only had one player in double figures in scoring as freshman post player DaMichael Brown poured in 15 points on 5 of 9 shooting. Naa'il Mahdi had 8 points, while Eddie Oyet and Karmoga Lero each added 7. Justin Castro for Anoka lead all scorers with 20 points.
But again it was the defense that stole the show for the game. RCTC hit on 24% from the floor in the first half, while Anoka hit at a 27% clip. Anoka, also forced 17 RCTC turnovers and turned those plays into 22 points.
RCTC took the lead early in the second half 27-26, before Anoka scored 8 straight to take a 7 point lead. The Jackets cut the lead to two on multiple occasions, but couldn't finish on several attempts from point blank range down the stretch.
RCTC is back on the road this Saturday taking on Ridgewater in a 3:00 start.
