RCTC men fall twice at DCTC Invite

Inver Grove Hts, MN - The RCTC men's basketball team kicked off 2019 against two scholarship schools at the DCTC invitational this past weekend.  Despite giving both opponents everything they could handle the Jackets left the tournament with an 0-2 record.  In the opener, RCTC fell to North Dakota State College of Science 75-86, before falling to host DCTC 57-74.

Against NDSCS, the Yellowjackets just couldn't maintain their quality first half play through the second half.  The Jackets trailed by only 2 at the break (38-40), and then got outscored 46-37 in the second half.  The Yellowjackets put four players in double-figures for the night  with Naa'il Mahdi leading the way with 16 points. Joining Mahdi were Karmoga Lero (14), Kong Kong (13), and Ben Opsahl (12).  The Jackets shot 37% from the floor and 35% (11-31) from beyond the arc.  NDSCS shot 49% from the floor and an even better 52% (12-23) from 3 point land.

In game two, the third game of the season against DCTC, it was a tale of two halves as the Jackets took a 32-31 lead into the break.  The second half, however belonged to the Blue Knights as they outscored the Yellowjackets 43-25 after the break. The two teams split the first two meetings of the season.  RCTC once again was lead by Maadi as the sophomore guard scored 11 points on the afternoon.  10 players scored for the Yellowjackets but no one else reached double figures as Eddie Oyet was the #2 scorer for RCTC with 9. RCTC turned the ball over 19 times to only 10 for the Blue Knights as both teams hit for around 33% shooting from the field. The Jackets hit on only 4-20 three pointers for 20%.

RCTC opens conference play at HOME this Wednesday night with a 7:00 tip-off against Riverland Community College.
