Rochester, MN - The RCTC men's basketball team used a late 17-5 run on their home court to knock of Bethany Lutheran 71-59. With the win the Yellowjackets move to 10-1 on the season.
RCTC failed to find its shooting touch finishing the half shooting a season low 26.3% from the floor. WIth only 3 minutes left in the half the Yellowjackets found themselves down by 10 points and struggling to find their touch. Three late steals by Casey Gustina and the Yellowjackets went into the half trailing by only 3 points.
In the second-half RCTC found their shooting touch and kept up the defensive pressure. The Jackets shot 40% and erupted for 43 second half points, while holding the Vikings to 28 in the half. Offensively the Yellowjackets were once again led by Jumah'Ri Turner who led all scores with 28 points. Ben Opsahl added 9 points while going 2-3 from beyond the arc. Gustina, though only scoring 2 points, proved to be the spark the Yellowjackets needed throughout the game. Playing a season high 26 minutes he was solid defensively picking up 4 steals and 4 rebounds on the night.
With 6:50 remaining in the game and the score knotted at 59 the jackets came to life, outscoring the Vikings 17-5 to close it out. Included in the run were 7 freethrows down the stretch. RCTC's defense held BLC to 34% shooting on the night, forced 26 turnovers, and had 6 blocked shots (including 3 by Justin Wofford).
RCTC is now off until January 5th when they take on North Dakota State College of Science at DCTC in Rosemount, MN.
