RCTC football wraps up regular season with 35-14 win over MN State-Fergus Falls

Fergus Falls, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket football team wrapped up the regular season with a 35-14 win over MN State - Fergus Falls on Saturday.  The Jackets finished the regular season at 6-2 and now start the playoff run with a game at Itasca on Sunday, October 27th.  

RCTC jumped out to an early 21 nothing lead, as Justin Lynn hit for three touchdown passes in the first half.  He connected with Philip Hillesheim for 24 yards in the first quarter, before connecting on a 16 yard strike to Michael Schimming and 5 yard TD to Michael Cole, both the in the second quarter.  MN State scored on a 46 yard pass late in the second quarter to give the Jackets a 21-6 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Spartans looked to make it a game as they cut the lead to 21-14 early in the fourth quarter.  Two late touchdowns, one a 1 yard run by quarterback Dylan VanBoxel, and the other a 5 yard TD pass from VanBoxel to Zach Buckeye sealed the win.

The Jacket defense played well throughout, as they held the Spartans to only 215 yards of offense, including only 35 yards rushing.  The Spartans ran the ball 40 times, averaging less than 1 yard per carry.  The Jacket defense was lead by Corey Waller with 12 tackles, including 2 for loss. Shan Fiorenza had 9 tackles, while Ken Bohnenkamp and Josh Miser each had 8. George Rendl III had a sack and Diego Muniz picked up a fumble recovery.

On the offensive side of the ball Justin Lynn threw for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns, completing 15-22 passes.  Fellow QB Dylan VanBoxel was 11-15 for 142 yards, one touchdown pass, and a rushing TD.  Damario Richards had 3 catches for 67 yards. In all, 15 different players caught passes in the game.
