Bottineau, ND - Coach Derrick Hintz and his Yellowjacket football team made the long road trip out to Bottineau, ND in the hopes of getting some things figured out, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. The Jackets who had given up 61 points in their opener appeared to do just that, as they held the Lumberjacks scorelss through 3 quarters, giving up only 13 poiints and 214 total yards of offense in the game. In addition RCTC, got some big plays on special teams in the 25-13 win.
RCTC scored twice in the first half, as Korean Gosha scored from 6 yards out on a blocked punt with 1:09 remaining in the first quarter. The Jackets second score came on a pick 6 returned 80 yards by Larry LeCount. RCTC theatened to score a third touchdown right before the half but the Lumberjacks intercepted a Jacket pass in the endzone.
Despite moving the ball well in the third RCTC was only able to come up with a Braulio Arango-Aguilar 32 yard field goal haflway through the third to take a 17-0 lead into the final frame. DCB got themselves a bit closer early in the fourth as they scored on a 23 yard pass with 11 minutes left. The Jackets immediately responded as quarterback Jacob Guidry hit receiver Levi Bulfer on a 45 yard touchdown pass with 9:14 remaining in the game.
For the game, Guidry was 12-23 for 148 yards passing and a touchdown. The Jackets had 5 players with over 20 yards receiving, while Greg Hoard wushed 3 times for 45 yards, Cody Hogan had 3 carries for 33 and Guidry scrambled 7 times for 25 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball Keshon Williams and Ken Bohnenkamp each had 10 tackles, while Bohnenkamp, Blake Snyder, and Geroge Rendl each added a sack. Damario Richards punted 7 times with an average of 32.7 yards and a long of 44.
RCTC plays this Saturday at 1:30 in their home opener. The Jackets will take on Northland Community College at the Regional Sports Stadium.
