ROCHESTER, MN - The RCTC football team moved to 4-1 on Saturday, winning their fourth straight contest of the season and sending a large Homecoming crowd home happy by downing Central Lakes - Brainerd 41-7. The Yellowjacket offense continued to roll amassing 381 total yards while holding the Raiders to 219.
Yellowjacket Coach Derrick Hintz however may have been even more thrilled with the Jacket defense who stepped up in holding their opponent to a season low seven points in the game. Leading the Jacket defense was Ken Bohnenkamp with 10 tackles and a sack. Eric Snook and Josh Miser each added 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks in the game. Donte Washington, Blake Snyder, and Ryan Erickson each had fumble recoveries, while Colton Taylor had an interception.
RCTC got the scoring started with 9:13 remaining in the first half as reigning national player of the week Justin Lynn connected with Rochester Mayo grad Calvin Dixon on a 9 yard touchdown pass. The Jackets added to their lead in the second quarter as Lynn connected with Severyn Foster with 9:22 remaining in the half. In what perhaps was the most significant series of the game the Yellowjacket defense stuffed Central Lakes twice on the goaline late in the second quarter. Then on 4th and goal the Jackets Blake Snyder stripped the Central Lakes running back returning the fumble 20 yards to end the threat.
Central Lakes did get on the board late in the period to cut the Jackets lead to 14-7, but with 9 seconds remaning in the half Israel Lozoya got loose for a 71 yard touchdown run to give RCTC a 21-7 lead at the break.
The second half was all Jackets as RCTC got third quarter touchdown runs from Lozoya (14 yards) and Greg Hoard III (9 yards), and then another Lynn touchdown pass, this time to KJ Franklin to extend the lead to 41-7.
Lynn ended the game going 15-24 for 203 yards and 3 touchdowns. He now has 11 touchdowns and 917 yards passing on the season. Lozoya had 6 carries for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead the rushing attack. Levi Bulfer had 3 catches for 66 yards, while Severyn Foster had 5 for 50 and a touchdown. Calvin Dixon had 3 catches for 34 yards to go with his touchdown grab.
Braulio Arango-Aguilar hit on 5-6 PAT's in the contest. He has now hit on 18-19 PAT's on the season.
The Yellowjackets are now on a well deserved bye week. They next take the field at home on Saturday, October 5th when they take on FonduLac tribal under the lights at the Stadium, with kick-off set for 7:00pm.
