RCTC picks up two wins with late-inning heroics

Arden Hills, MN - The RCTC Yellowjacket baseball team picked up two wins yesterday both with some late-inning heroics.  In the opener, RCTC dropped Century College 6-5 and followed that up with a 4-3 win over Mesabi Range.  Both games were played on the campus of Northwestern College in Areden Hills, MN.

In the first game Century got to starter Jeremiah Van De Steeg early plating 2 runs in the first and then 3 more in the 4th.  That was all the visitors could muster as RCTC chipped away with 1 run in the second and then 3 in the 5th.  Trailing by 1 heading into the seventh, RCTC got the scoring run on a close play at the play when the Century catcher dropped the ball on a bang-bang play allowing the Yellowjackets to tie the game.  The Jackets then earned the walk-off win with a run in the 8th.

Lucas Fredin was 2-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored.  Ethan Hurn and Zach Wolter each had doubles while Hurn had 2 RBI's and Wolter added 1. Van De Steeg finished the game allowing 6 hits, 5 earned runs while walking 2 and striking out 11.

Game two once again featured late inning heroics as RCTC plated 3 runs in the top of the 7th to erase a 3-1 deficit.  Jack Sperry had 2 hits including a double, while Carlos Dominguez also added a double on two hits with 2 RBI's.  Ethan Hurn was 2-3 for the game as well. Mitch McMurl started the game for the Jackets going 5 innings allowing 2 runs (only 1 earned), walking for and striking out 6.  Gannon Hank picked up the win in relief going 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs.

RCTC is back in action on Thursday, heading east down highway 14 to take on Saint Mary's JV at 3 and 5.
