RCTC Splits Four Games at Southern Division Round Robin

Rochester, MN - The RCTC babseball team hosted the opening round robin weekend of the Southern Division baseball schedule this past weekend.  Due to weather issues the entire Division schedule is being played over the course of two weekends at two different sites (RCTC and Riverland Community College).  The Jackets went 2-2 on the weekend, dropping both games on Saturday before rebounding with two wins on Sunday.

RCTC opened play against MN West on day one, falling 3-4 in a very good ball game.  RCTC jumped out early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first, before MN West battled back with 2 of their own in both the 5th and 6th innings.  RCTC made it interesting in the bottom of the 7th scoring one and stranding the tying run on third.  Jace Lang went 3-4 with an RBI and a double, while Jason Traynor went 2-4 for the game.  Jeremiah VanDeSteeg was the hard luck loser going 6 innings and giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits.

In game two, It was Riverland getting the best of the Jackets, winning 7-3.  Mitch Thomas and Ethan Hurn each had two hits to pace RCTC, while Hurn scored all three Yellowjacket runs.  Hunter Reinardy got the start, going 4 innings and giving up 7 runs (only 4 earned).

On Day 2 of the round robin the Jackets were looking for a strong pitching performance and they got it out of Cal Sauro.  The sophomore tossed 7 shut-out innings, allowing only 2 hits to blank Anoka-Ramsey 3-0.  Sauro struck out 6 and walked 2 in going the distance.  RCTC got all the offense it would need in the 4th inning as Mitch Thomas singled driving in 2.  The Yellowjackets got an insurance run in the 5th on the run scroing single by Jason Traynor.

In the final game of the day, it was the offense that came to life, delivering an 11-5 win over Western Tech.  RCTC scored early and often putting up 6 runs in the 2nd inning.  The Jackets added single runs in the 4th and 6th, before pushing across 3 more in the 7th.  Jason Traynor once again filled the stat sheet, going 3-4 with a double, 4 RBI's, and 2 runs scored.  Mitch Thomas also had 2 RBI's on the game.  Getting the win for the Jackets was Josh Carey who threw a complete game, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) while striking out 6 and walking 1.

The Jackets are back in action this coming weekend playing round two of the Southern Division schedule, this time at Riverland College.
