RCTC splits four in round two

Austin, MN - For the RCTC Yellowjacket baseball team it was dejavu all over again, as they split four games over the weekend.  At round two of the MCAC Southern Division event, the Jackets split both days double headers.  Day one featured a 2-6 loss to Riverland and a 10-9 nailbiter against Western Tech.  Day two was more of the same as the Jackets down Mn West 9-7 before falling 7-4 to Anoka-Ramsey.

In the opening game, RCTC got 2 hits (including a double) and 2 RBI's from Mitch Thomas.  Jace Lang threw 5 innings, giving up 6 runs on 9 hits.  In game two the Yellowjacket bats got hot pounding out 16 hits to plate their 10 runs.  Pacing the jacket offense were Jace Lang and Jared Crawford-Akeredolu, each going 3-4 with 2 RBI's.  Joining the hit parade with 2 hits each were Ethan Hurn, Jordan Hauser and Jason Traynor.  Jeremiah VandeSteeg went 6 innings, giving up 7 runs on the day for the win.

On day two, the jackets got a big 9-7 come from behind win over MN West to start the day.  MN West jumped out early against starter Cal Sauro who surrended 7 runs over 6 innings.  However only 3 of the Jays runs were earned.  RCTC scored 4 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th before Hunrer Reinardy came in to close the door on MN West in the 7th.  Holt Goodwin picked up 3 hits and 2 RBI's for the Jackets, while Mitch Thomas also chipped in 3 hits on the day.  Jace Lang was 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

In the final game of the day the jackets fell to Anoka-Ramsey 7-4.  The game was tied 4-4 going into the 7th before Anpka put a 3 spot on the board to secure the win.  Jason Traynor had 3 hits while Mitch Thomas and Dustin Rhodes each had 2.  Josh Carey went 4 1/3 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 runs.

RCTC's Jace Lang went 7-13 on the weekend for a .538 batting average.

By virtue of the results of the 8 game two weekend tournament the Jackets earned the #2 seed in the Southern Division Tournament.  The event will be hosted by RCTC at the Rochester Youth baseball Complex on Fields #1 and #4 this weekend (May 12 and 13).  The first round of games features the #4 seeded Western Tech vs #5 seed Anoka-Ramsey at 1:00 on field #4, while the Yellowjackets (#2 seed), will face #3 seed MN West, also at 1:00 on field #4. With a win the Jackets would play for the Division title on Sunday the 6th at 1:00pm.  With a loss in game #1 the Jackets would play at 4:00 on field #4 and try to fight their way into a regional berth.
