Twenty-Three RCTC Student-athletes Earn NJCAA Academic Honor

Rochester, MN - Twenty-three RCTC student-athletes representing all sports at the College received NJCAA Academic Awards for the 2018-19 season.  The awards, which are classified by First Team, Second Team, and Third Team are based on a student-athlete's success in the classroom while participating on a varsity team at the NJCAA level.

The minimum standard required to qualify for the award is that a student pass a minimum of 24 credits during the academic year with a GPA of above a 3.60.  Mid-year graduates are also eligible if the complete 12 credits in the fall at a 3.60 or higher.  First Team award winners are required to have a 4.00 GPA for the entire year.

RCTC had six (6) student-athletes qualify as First Team award winners:

Brad Barkema - Baseball
Mattie Hellerud - Women's Basketball and Softball
Caroline Rutledge - Volleyball
Elizabeth Schams - Soccer
Elisabeth Stelley - Soccer

The Yellowjackets had seven (7) members on the Second Team:

MaKara Fahrenholtz - Softball
Paul Messou - Men's Basketball
Benjamin Opsahl - Men's Basketball
MaKenzie Swanson-Larson - Soccer and Softball
Jeremiah Van De Steeg - Baseball
Alyssa Whitson - Women's Basketball
