RCTC Men finish 3rd in the Nation. The RCTC Men’s Basketball team traveled to Loch Sheldrake, NY March 10-15th to compete in the 2015 NJCAA Men’s D3 Basketball tournament.
The men took on Sandhills Community College the first round on March 12, and beat them by 21 points, 90-69. Justyn Galloway stepped up to the challenge, scoring 22 points, followed by Robert Claypool with 14. Galloway also sank both his two 3-pointer attempts, and Claypool scored four 3-pointers.
The Yellowjackets moved forward in the competition to play number one seed Rock Valley College on March 13. Rock Valley was ahead eight points at the half, and pulled ahead even more the second half with another twelve points to win 73-53. Aaron Samuels sank 13 points, and Ben Ratliff scored nine. The Yellowjackets hit nearly 92 percent of their free throw attempts, with 11 of 12 in the basket. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, and Rock Valley proceeded to the finals for the Championship game.
The Yellowjackets took on Hostos Community College for third place and rallied from the loss against Rock Valley to beat them by a whopping 32 points, 92-60. Ratliff scored 20 points in the game, followed by Galloway with 17. Demetrius Cady scored four of five 3-pointer attempts, and Claypool added another three 3-pointers during the game.
The Yellowjackets finished the season 28-5 overall and 13-1 in conference. Over the last three years the Yellowjackets are 81-15 overall and have a 41-1 conference record and a 40 game home winning streak. The Yellowjackets have won 4 of the last 6 region titles.

Saturday, January 31st, RCTC participated in the MCAC State Wrestling Tournament, which was held at Itasca Community College in Grand Rapids, MN. The Yellowjackets emerged as the tournament champions with 110 points. The Yellowjackets crowned five MCAC Champions, Carson Henry, Mason Moreno, Thomas Miller Tyler Vogt and Cory Beryy and four MCAC Runners-up. Congratulations Yellowjackets!

The NJCAA national office announced the Women’s Basketball Players of the Week of all three divisions Wednesday for games played between Dec. 15 – Jan. 4. Chipola sophomore center Evelyn Akhator joined freshmen forwards Jazzmine Royster of Iowa Central and Tailor Raymond from Rochester as this week’s honorees.

The RCTC Volleyball team will be hosting the NJCAA Region XIII A Volleyball Tournament Friday and Saturday. The Yellowjackets will play Friday, November 7 at 6:00pm against Minnesota State Fergus Falls. The winner of that match will go on to play Saturday, November 8th at 12:00. The Yellowjackets are ranked #1 in the NJCAA Division III standings.
The MCAC Championship game between Rochester and Central Lakes will be at St. Cloud State University at 1:00 on Sunday, November 9th. The game will be live streamed on the NJCAA website http://www.ihigh.com/rctc/.
In Saturday October 18th's game, Nick Rooney broke the school record for touchdown passes in a season. He now has 33 TD passes for the year, breaking the old school record of 28 which was held by Ryan Kelly and Kramer Berg. For the game, Nick was 21-31 for 317 yards and 5 touchdowns.
With his 3 touchdown receptions on Saturday, Patrick Bolton also tied a school record with his 17th touchdown reception of the season, a record held by Antoine Burns, who went on to become a big-time receiver for the University of Minnesota back in the late 90's. Bolton now has 56 catches this year, for 1037 yards, along with those 17 touchdowns. He is 2 receptions shy of the school record for receptions on the season, also held by the former Golden Gopher, Burns.
Defensively, the Jackets were led by Juston Mincy, who had 7 tackles and a 45 yard interception return for a touchdown, and Kevin Agee, a defensive tackle who had 6 tackles and 3 sacks in a dominating performance.
The Yellowjackets are now entering the playoffs, and will be home against the North Dakota School of Science on Saturday, October 25th, with kickoff to be at 1 pm.
Congratulations to Kelsey Aylward, who was named the NJCAA Soccer Division III Player of the Week for Week 8, Oct. 6-12! Kelsey helped the Yellowjackets to two huge wins last week with four goals and eight assists.
The volleyball team is ranked second in the NJCAA. They play again Wednesday, Oct. 22 vs. Anoka-Ramsey at home.
Volleyball had a big win on Saturday against Ridgewater College, 3-2. Amberlee Dunagan had 42 set assists and 10 digs. Brianna Atkins had 26 kills and 15 digs, Danielle Adams had 12 kills, and Natalie Reinardy had 27 digs.
Volleyball won against St. Cloud Technical and Community College, 3-0, on Friday. Amberlee Dunagan had three ace serves and 32 set assists. Brianna Atkins had 19 kills, Emily Kingland had seven kills, and Danielle Adams had nine kills. Natalie Reinardy had 21 digs, Haley Lenz had 12 digs, and Jessica Foster had 11.
The soccer team once again outscored its opponents by leaps and bounds. The team played Century College on Saturday, winning 11-0. Kelsey Aylward had three goals, Michele Cook had two, and Courtney Hlavka had two. Goalie Kathryn Brainerd had two saves.
The soccer team beat Crown College on Wednesday 13-0.
The next game is Thursday, Oct. 16 vs. Indian Hills at 2 p.m. on home turf.
Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets football team has secured the Southern Division title of the MCAC. The Yellowjackets Defeated Minnesota West on Saturday with a 63 - 13 win.
Region 13 Golf Tournament was held in Fergus Falls, MN on Sept. 29th & 30th. Karli Bly shot 92-94=186, good for 4th place in the Region and MCAC Champion. Men's team finished in 6th place. Anthony Crowson shot an 83-81=164 for 10th place.
Men's and Women's Golf competed at the Iowa Lakes Invite in Okoboji, IA on Sept. 26th. Karli Bly shot a 99 and finished in 6th Place. Anthony Crowson shot a 77 to finish in 6th place and Trevor Barnes shot an 86 finishing 21st.
Brianna Atkins was named All-Around Player of the week September 8th. Brianna displayed her versatility for Rochester during 5 matches last week. Atkins had 104 kills hitting, recorded 68 digs and had 7 blocks and 6 serve aces. She s a sophomore from Rochester, MN.
Haley Lenz was named Defensive Player of the week September 8th. Haley triggered the Yellowjackets defense with 128 digs including 30+ in three of the five matches, all wins. Lenz added 12 assists and 10 aces. She is a sophomore from Rochester, MN.
Amberlee Dunagan was named Hitter of the Week September 8th. Amberlee averaged 8.81 asst/set as Rochester won all 5 matches last week. Dunagan had 56 and 41 assists respectively in wins over D2 DMACC and Bismarck State. In addition, Amberlee averaged 3.28 digs/set and had 6 aces. She is a sophomore from Rochester, MN.
Congratulations to Amari Kennedy for being chosen Special Teams - Player of the Week. Amari returned one kick 30 yards to lead the Yellowjacket special team's play as they improved to 2 - 0 on the season. He is averaging 25.3 yards/KR. Amari is a freshman from Apple Valley, MN.
Congratulations to Diondre Green for being chosen Defensive Player of the Week. Diondre was all over the field in Rochester's recent win. Green had 6 tackles (5 solo, 1 TFL), 1 forced funble and 2 pass break ups. He is a freshman from Edina, MN.
Congratulations to Nick Rooney for being chosen Offensive Player of the Week. Nick accounted for 6 TD (5 pass, 1 rush) to lead the Yellowjackets to a 48 -0 win over Mesabi Range. Rooney completed 17 of 24 passes for 277 yards with one INT. Nick is a Freshman from Prior Lake, MN.
